Macromechanical Lab

The equipment installed in the macromechanical lab is designed for conducting research aimed at increasing the understanding of the of hydrogen on materials mechanical properties through:

  • Mechanical Fracture Toughness
  • Fatigue Testing
  • Tensile Testing
  • Fatigue Crack Growth Rate (FCGR)
  • Hollow Specimen Testing
All mechanical test can be performed in a temperature range between -20°C and 200°C and under pressurized hydrogen gas up to 500 bar. H 2O and O 2 sensors allow for full control of the gas composition during the test. In addition, the presence of 2 zirconium glass built in the autoclave enables for no-contact visual inspection of the specimen during testing through video based technique such as Digital Image Correlation, Infrared-based temperature evolution and high speed camera.
